The Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation has leveled serious allegations against the Ukrainian armed forces, claiming that an attack was attempted on the spent nuclear fuel storage facility at the Zaporizhia NPP, the largest nuclear complex in Europe.
According to the General Director of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, the attack allegedly took place on July 30, when, as he claimed, an unmanned aerial vehicle attempted to strike the dry spent nuclear fuel storage site.
"On July 30, an attack was attempted on the site of the dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility," stated Alexei Likhachev, according to the Russian agency TASS.

The head of Rosatom reported that the unmanned aerial vehicle did not explode and was located near the building housing the specialized transporter used for moving spent nuclear fuel storage containers.

Alexei Likhachev also revisited recent statements by Rosatom regarding the death of the chief engineer of the Zaporizhia NPP, Alexander Yakovlev.
According to the Russian company, Alexander Yakovlev was killed in what it characterizes as a "targeted terrorist attack" by Ukrainian forces.
Rosatom maintains that a Ukrainian drone struck the station's official vehicle at the boundary of the industrial zone of the Zaporizhia NPP and the city of Energodar.
The driver of the vehicle, Dmitry Filippov, also lost his life in the attack.
